Chair of the Department of Urology at the University Medical Centre in Groningen

He was born in 1952 and studied Medicine at the University of Groningen. Following his Urology training he was appointed at the Sophia Children’s Hospital in Rotterdam. In 1987 he finished his PhD thesis on ‘Sexual dysfunction in patients with testicular tumours’. Additional training in paediatric urology was followed in Baltimore, USA.

In 1992 he was appointed head of the department of paediatric urology at the Sophia Children’s hospital in Rotterdam. In 2002 he was appointed chair of the department of Urology at the University Medical Centre in Groningen.

His main interests are paediatric incontinence and reconstructive surgery in children and adults.

He is member of several scientific organisations and is past-president of the European Society for Paediatric Urology, the ICS children’s committee, the European Board of Urology and served as chairman of the EBU Accreditation Committee, the EBU Education Committee and Examination Committee.

He has published more than one hundred papers in peer reviewed journals.
